Our Story

In the wee hours of the morning in January 2024, I found myself wide awake. Laundry done. Dishwasher emptied. Now what?

The peace and quiet of my usually over-scheduled home was the perfect canvas to be creative. And so, every morning I started to bake. After a few weeks of baking for my family, I began sharing the desserts with my extended family, and then my friends. It brought me great joy to bake and share.

When people started suggesting that I sell my baked goods, I laughed. Me, sell? I’ve been an educator for 25 years, not a baker. However, the more encouragement I got, the more I realized that my baked goods brought joy to others as well.

One evening, at a large family Friday night dinner, I had baked a sampling of many recipes for dessert. People couldn’t believe that I had time to not only cook dinner, but to also prepare many desserts. It was only then that I disclosed that I began preparing at 3 that morning - my natural wake up time. Between the shock and laughter, one family member dubbed me the Insomniac Baker. It was at that moment that the Insomniac Bakery was born.
